About CTC

In 1998, the City of Watertown called for a county-wide symposium to discuss the dangers of drugs to the health and well being of our youth and community and the Substance Abuse Committee was formed. In the later part of 1998, this group approached the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council of Jefferson County, Inc. (ASAC) for assistance. After researching many programs, the Communities That Care prevention model was selected as the best means to implement positive change in Jefferson County and in 2000, the Communities That Care Youth Development Coalition was formed.

VISION STATEMENT

CTC's vision is to have a community where all people are educated, demonstrate healthy values, and exhibit responsible citizenship.

MISSION STATEMENT

CTC's mission is to mobilize every resource to create positive opportunities and growth for youth and families in Jefferson County.

DRUG-FREE COMMUNITIES GRANT

On June 27, 1997, the Drug-Free Communities Act of 1997 became law. This act is a catalyst for increased citizen participation in reducing substance use among youth, and it provides community anti-drug coalitions with much-needed funds to carry out their important missions.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) directs the Drug-Free Communities Support Program in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services. This anti-drug program provides grants of up to $100,000 to local coalitions to mobilize their communities to prevent youth alcohol, tobacco, illicit drug, and inhalant abuse.

In 2004, The Communities That Care Youth Development Coalition applied for and received funding from Drug-Free Communities for a term of five years.

HOST AGENCY

CTC is hosted by the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council of Jefferson County, Inc. (ASAC). ASAC's mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle in the community by providing education, intervention, and assessment / referral services in order to reduce the impact of alcohol, drugs, and other addictions which affect individuals and families.
